Back in high school I was the liberal's liberal. I believed—and spouted—everything my teachers told me about women, feminism, gays, race, and the evil capitalist machine. I wanted to become a good man, not like all of those men who came before me, who had treated women with contempt and destroyed the planet.
Now, twenty-five years on, I see that most men don't treat women with contempt, that men haven't destroyed the planet, and that the capitalist machine, while the source of much evil, is also the source of much good and stability in the world. As William Churchill once said, "Democracy is the worst form of government—except for all of the others." In other words, yes, there is a lot wrong with men, with capitalism, with Western society, with the world, and with all manner of people in it. However, there's also a lot wrong with women, with socialism, and with other societies.
All of that said, I'm just dabbling here. I'm no great philosophical light; nor do I have a command of history, philosophy, or civilization. If you can handle reading the relatively uninformed scribblings of a neophyte, click away.
